CO₂-neutral solar fuels
Synhelion
Scroll-down Scroll down

Synhelion produces fuels from solar energy. The fuels replace fossil fuels such as kerosene, petrol or diesel and thus enable CO₂-neutral mobility, especially in aviation. Synhelion’s fuels are CO₂-neutral, as they only release as much CO₂ during combustion as was used for their production.

How would you describe your solution in a few words?

Synhelion is a clean energy company that has developed a unique technology to produce sustainable solar fuels from solar energy to contribute to a net-zero transportation sector. Synhelion’s solar fuels close the carbon cycle and drive a world connected by clean, sustainable transportation.

Who are your customers?

Our fuels can be used across the transportation sector, as we produce kerosene for planes, gasoline for cars, and diesel for ships and trucks. Our customers include our partner Swiss International Air Lines, which will be the first airline in the world to fly with our fuels.

What are the environmental benefits of your solution?

Synhelion’s solar fuels can directly replace fossil fuels and are fully compatible with the existing global infrastructure. Our sustainable fuels are carbon-neutral as they only emit as much CO₂ as went into their production. Synhelion’s solar fuels close the carbon cycle and drive a world connected by clean, sustainable transportation.

How do you manage to exist on the market?

CO₂-neutral fuels are an important factor for sustainable mobility. Aviation in particular will continue to rely on liquid fuels in the future. There is already a regulation in place that requires airlines to use a certain percentage of sustainable aviation fuels from 2025.

The market for sustainable fuels is large (e.g., each aviation and shipping around 300 million tons per year). Already today, the demand for our fuels is huge.

We are now scaling up the technology to make the fuels available to the transportation sector. Our first industrial plan in Germany will be inaugurated in summer 2024, afterwards we plan to build our first commercial plan in Spain in 2025.
