District heating project with large-scale heat storage
AGRO Energie Schwyz AG
Scroll-down Scroll down

How do you describe your solution?

The district heating of AGRO Energie Schwyz AG works like a large central heating system. Instead of being generated in each building individually, the heat for an entire region is generated centrally and supplied to the customers. The production of green electricity from wood produces usable waste heat. This waste heat reaches the businesses and households in the Schwyz region in the form of hot water via a kilometre-long pipeline system.

The water, which has a temperature of around 90°C, is fed into the connected properties. There, the heat is transferred to the in-house heating system in a heat exchanger. In the return pipe, the water, which has now cooled down and has a temperature of around 50°C, is returned to the energy centre, where it is heated again.

Who are your customers?

Our customers are all individuals, organisations, communities of heirs, SMEs, commerce and industry, institutions such as hospitals, schools, holiday and leisure providers such as the Swiss Holiday Park, municipalities, districts and cantons that heat their properties with renewable and sustainable energy.

What are the environmental benefits of your solution?

  • Green electricity and heat are produced from the natural, local raw material wood.
  • Wood is 100 % renewable and CO2-neutral.
  • Decentralised green electricity and heat production increases energy independence and makes a significant contribution to the energy transition.

How do you manage to survive on the market?

AGRO Energie Schwyz AG is able to survive on the market because it offers heat in excellent conditions and is an excellent alternative to fossil heating systems.

Within 10 years, more than 1500 customers with a connected load of 36,000 kW could be connected to the district heating network.
